This spot in front of Journey into Imagination is definitely a go to spot for myself and many other photographers. It’s kind of an iconic shot in my opinion and has definitely been done a lot. At the very least you need a monorail to even bother these days but to really help it shine you’re gonna need some cooperation from the sky. In this particular instance I shot this same scene twice during the same sunset. This was at the very beginning of what I’d consider sunset. I then wrapped back around to it again at the end of sunset for another shot. Even though it’s the same shot on the same day within just an hour of each other they both feel quite unique from one another thanks to the development of the sunset. I will post the second shot soon for comparison.
Shooting/Editing Monorail Into the Sunset of Your Imagination
I shot this with the Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24 2.8 @ 24MM. If I hadn’t been in a hurry I probably would have switched to the 24-70 and shot this slightly tighter at something like 30MM. I bracketed this but ended up using a single exposure for the edit. I did some initial levels adjustments followed by Nik Color Efex Pro Contrast before doing some hue/saturation adjustments, vibrance adjustments as well as some color painting to further enhance the sunset colors. I did a bit of dodging and burning and finished it off with my typical round of sharpening.
